Archery Bows come in all forms and sizes. The most common types are compound bows, traditional bows, youth bows and take-down bows. Each one has its own place within archery and some are better suited to one of the major areas of archery: field archery, archery hunting, or target archery.
Compound bows are probably the most popular and can be in all three major areas of archery; however, are mostly used in hunting and target archery. They operate a little differently than other bows because they use cams and cables. This design allows for the archer to carry a heavier draw weight than other bows. This results in shooter and smoother and faster arrow.
Traditional bows were the norm up until the 1980s when compound bows were invented. They are still widely popular and offer purists an opportunity shoot like primitive man and past generations. One advantage they have over compound bows is they allow you to shoot farther. This can be helpful in field archery and some archery games that require more of an arcing shot.
Youth bows are smaller versions of traditional bows that offer young archers an opportunity to grow into the sport. They have the same parts as regular bows and are great for children and young adults. Young people can also use kids compound bows which are naturally smaller sized versions of compound bows.
Take down bows are bows which allow you to take the upper and lower limbs off the bow. These are practical bows that are great for storage and traveling. You can find versions for traditional archery bows and compound bows.
Also, additional parts can be added to any bow to improve their accuracy. This is especially important in target archery. One such piece of equipment are stabilizers. These can be placed on the bow and reduce the vibration of the bow while it is being fired. This helps get off a smoother shot and improves your accuracy. Another common feature on some bows is the use of release aids. These are designed as an alternative to actually gripping the string. This feature allows you to concentrate more on the shot than your draw allowing a more consistent shot.
Equipped with this information, you should have a good basic starting point for archery bows. With just a little more research, you should be ready to pick the Archery Bow that is just right for you.
